Marion Island Research Station – Southern Ocean |
| |
Marion Island is a scientific research and weather station based in the Southern AtlanticOcean near Antarctica. This base is on a world heritage site which may not be contaminated. The current tanks are 12 years old, and needed to be replaced. |
Project Details :
A solution had to be found with respect to getting new tanks, piping, gauging systems. The supply of both the specifications and the equipment for this project was required. Tanks had to airlifted by helicopter to the Island from the ship, therefore strict weight restrictions had to be adhered to, and tested in order to conform to the weight restrictions. Further more the islands very harsh climatic conditions and environmental requirements posed further challenges in order to get a system with a 30 year life span. Petroplas was selected over all other systems, as it was the only pipe which would satisfy all requirements. |
